Asim Rafiqui presents his long term project The Idea Of India where, as a photographer and a writer, he is exploring India's lived syncretic and pluralist cultures, traditions and communities. Begun in 2008 as a personal project, the work has since received the support of an Aftermath grant and a Fulbright fellowship. The project, emerging exclusively on the internet, uses photography not only as a means of documentation, but also as a vessel for the imagination, allowing Asim to explore issues of history, culture and society through his writings. He is now in his third year of work and aims to complete it in the form of a book by the summer of 2012.
* Slideshows of photographers’ works Curated by Sohrab Hura
The works presented by Sohrab are those that have not only evoked a reaction out of him but which have made him hold on to my belief in the medium of photography. Sohrab’s slideshow doesn't intend to limit the works to any particular genre. He will show a blend of works, some being very old from the early 20th century, others made quite recently by my own contemporaries. Some are reportages, some are constructed – in the end he hopes they all come together to make the audience feel… feel anything.
