This will be a talk on the techniques to take the eye beyond subconscious conditionalities and practiced and defined formats of image making. In its larger import it will touch upon the prerequisites for a personal exploration of a subject through the camera. It is a subject, which will have a appeal both for serious amateurs and professional photographers looking to go beyond the boundaries of work defined by their jobs.
* "Art, Commerce and Profession of Photography" by Pradeep Dasgupta.
* "Forgotten Histories of Indian Photography, 1945 onwards" by Ram Rahman.
This lecture presents the work of many photographers who made important work in the decades through the 1970's, but whose work has not been in the public eye for decades. Many of these are photographers who were very influential in their times, but their work has not been contextualized, even in the survey shows which have proliferated recently. Younger Indian photographers have not had access to these bodies of work, which have also not been critically situated in an assessment of contemporary Indian photography.
